Lies remain, only truth sets you free

The truth, of course is that a billion falsehoods told a billion times by a billion people are still false – Travis Walton

Do you lie to yourself? You are fat and you say I am just healthy; You are not doing well financially and you say nothing is wrong, everything is just fine; Your relationship is going bad and you say it’s probably nothing; You are struggling with some aspect of your life and obviously need help and you say its manageable, no big deal!

Well, this is just like a kid closing his eyes assuming that what he doesn’t like will go away. Lying to self, self denial is the worst one can do to self. By denying what is true, you rob yourself of the opportunity to work upon your problem area and make things work. For here is the thing with a problem: You deny, the problem remains; You accept, you have a chance of resolving it. Think about the amount of energy spent to keep on lying to self. If that by itself is not a huge cost to pay, you will have to keep lying for lifelong. For if there is no problem, how can you resolve it?

I think that we should take on our fears directly…yes it is scary but a solution comes quicker. “By denying what is true, you rob yourself of the opportunity to work upon your problem area and make things work.” So true!

I just came over from Blogging Without A Blog.
My initial response was to write a comment and say something like, “Well I might deceive myself but it’s for my own good. It’s only temporary…” and continue along in that way.
But then I reread what you said, and I realized/remembered (a common lesson for me) it never does any good to lie to ourselves. We’re only putting off facing the truth. Instead, if I accept my issues at face value and the put energy in, when I can, to fixing them, I might make some progress!

I too came over from Blogging Without A Blog. I will stay and read more.

Just yesterday, I told my daughter that denial doesn’t make a problem go away and solves nothing. I recently told her that I didn’t want her to go through years of ignoring a problem and suddenly wake up one day and realize how unhappy she was with the same problem building resentments instead of the problem being faced and resolved now. She apparently didn’t listen and now all I can do is release the situation to her and her Higher Power. I see the problem but it isn’t mine to solve for her. She is an adult with her own life to live and her own problems to resolve or not, her choice, not mine.

    Avani:

Many people do not realize, lying is equivalent to adding more stress to their life, and wasting other’s time. I do not come across many posts on this topic. Nice post.
